- OVERVIEW

This week, we explore how marriage illustrates God’s covenant with His people. Prophets like Hosea used this image to reveal God's faithfulness even when His people are unfaithful. From Eden’s first union to the final marriage supper of the Lamb, the theme of divine love and relational commitment echoes throughout prophecy.

- SATURDAY – Introduction

- Memory Text

Revelation 19:9
KJV 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. CEV 9 Then the angel told me, “Put this in writing. God will bless everyone who is invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” The angel also said, “These things God has said are true.”

- Lesson

From the very beginning of Scripture to its end, marriage is a key symbol. God designed marriage not only as a blessing for humanity but also as a living lesson about His relationship with His people. In prophecy, this imagery is used to represent Christ and the church.

The church is described as a bride prepared for her Husband. This image points to the close, joyful, and holy relationship God longs to have with His people. Like any true marriage, it is based on love, trust, and faithfulness.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White says that Christ honored marriage at the start of His ministry and used it as a symbol of His union with the redeemed. It’s the closest, most sacred tie on earth and was meant to reflect the connection between Jesus and His followers.

- Conclusion

Marriage in the Bible is not just about humans. It teaches us about God’s desire to be united with us forever.

- Reflection

Why is marriage used to describe the relationship between Christ and His people?

- SUNDAY – One Flesh

- Lesson

Read the following:

Genesis 2:23-25
KJV 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. CEV 23 and the man exclaimed, “Here is someone like me! She is part of my body, my own flesh and bones. She came from me, a man. So I will name her Woman!” 24 That's why a man will leave his own father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two of them become like one person. 25 Although the man and his wife were both naked, they were not ashamed.

Ephesians 5:31-32
KJV 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. CEV 31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother to get married, and he becomes like one person with his wife.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I understand it to mean Christ and his church.

Marriage was established by God in Eden before sin. Adam and Eve were joined as "one flesh," showing unity, equality, and shared purpose. Paul later used this image to describe Christ and the church—a divine mystery showing deep love and unity.

Marriage was meant to reflect God’s character. The closeness between husband and wife illustrates the closeness God wants with each of us.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White writes that God Himself united Adam and Eve, setting a divine standard. The union was holy and full of love, respect, and purpose—just like the relationship Christ wants with His redeemed people.

- Conclusion

God’s plan for marriage mirrors His plan for unity with His people—a relationship of mutual love and respect.

- Reflection

How does the creation of marriage in Eden show God’s ideal for relationships?

- MONDAY – The Beautiful Bride

- Lesson

Read the following:

Isaiah 61:10
KJV 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. CEV 10 I celebrate and shout because of my Lord God. His saving power and justice are the very clothes I wear. They are more beautiful than the jewelry worn by a bride or groom.

Revelation 21:2
KJV 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. CEV 2 Then I saw New Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down from God in heaven. It was like a bride dressed in her wedding gown and ready to meet her husband.

In both the Old and New Testaments, God’s people are seen as a bride dressed in beautiful garments. These garments represent salvation and righteousness—gifts from God. The bride has prepared herself, not by her own goodness, but by accepting what God offers.

This image teaches us that the church is treasured, honored, and cherished by Christ. The beauty isn’t in ourselves, but in the purity Jesus provides.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White says the wedding garment represents Christ’s righteousness freely given to sinners. The church is beautiful not because of itself, but because of Christ’s work in her.

- Conclusion

Jesus sees His church as a bride dressed in white—pure, forgiven, and ready for the wedding.

- Reflection

What does the wedding garment in Isaiah 61:10
KJV 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. CEV 10 I celebrate and shout because of my Lord God. His saving power and justice are the very clothes I wear. They are more beautiful than the jewelry worn by a bride or groom.

- TUESDAY – Hosea’s Harlot Wife

- Lesson

Read the following:

Hosea 1:2
KJV 2 The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord. CEV 2 The Lord said, “Hosea, Israel has betrayed me like an unfaithful wife. Marry such a woman and have children by her.”

Hosea 2:13-20
KJV 13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord. 14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. 15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. 16 And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali. 17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name. 18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. 19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord. CEV 13 I'll punish her for the days she worshiped Baal and burned incense to him. I'll punish her for the times she forgot about me and wore jewelry and rings to attract her lovers. I, the Lord, have spoken! 14 Israel, I, the Lord, will lure you into the desert and speak gently to you. 15 I will return your vineyards, and then Trouble Valley will become Hopeful Valley. You will say “Yes” to me as you did in your youth, when leaving Egypt. 16 I promise from that day on, you will call me your husband instead of your master. 17 I will no longer even let you mention the names of those pagan gods that you called “Master.” 18 And I will agree to let you live in peace — you will no longer be attacked by wild animals and birds or by weapons of war. 19 I will accept you as my wife forever, and instead of a bride price I will give you justice, fairness, love, kindness, 20 and faithfulness. Then you will truly know who I am.

God asked Hosea to marry a woman who would be unfaithful to him. This real-life experience helped show how Israel had treated God—like a spouse who keeps leaving. Yet despite her unfaithfulness, Hosea loved her, bought her back, and stayed committed to her. This powerfully illustrates God's love.

Even though His people worshipped idols and forgot Him, God never stopped loving them. He promised to win them back, not through anger, but through love and kindness.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White writes that God shows mercy even when we wander. He disciplines us with love and leads us to repentance. He doesn't abandon us when we fail—He works to restore us.

- Conclusion

Even when we are unfaithful, God remains committed to us. His love never gives up.

- WEDNESDAY – Isaac and Rebekah

- Lesson

Read the following:

Genesis 24:57-67
KJV 57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth. 58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go. 59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men. 60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them. 61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way. 62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming. 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. 65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. 66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. 67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death. CEV 57 They answered, “Let's ask Rebekah what she wants to do.” 58 They called her and asked, “Are you willing to leave with this man at once?” “Yes,” she answered. 59 So they agreed to let Rebekah and an old family servant woman leave immediately with Abraham's servant and his men. 60 They gave Rebekah their blessing and said, “We pray that God will give you many children and grandchildren and that he will help them defeat their enemies.” 61 Afterwards, Rebekah and the young women who were to travel with her prepared to leave. Then they got on camels and left with Abraham's servant and his men. 62 At that time Isaac was living in the southern part of Canaan near a place called “The Well of the Living One Who Sees Me.” 63-65 One evening he was walking out in the fields, when suddenly he saw a group of people approaching on camels. So he started toward them. Rebekah saw him coming; she got down from her camel, and asked, “Who is that man?” “He is my master Isaac,” the servant answered. Then Rebekah covered her face with her veil. 66 The servant told Isaac everything that had happened. 67 Isaac took Rebekah into the tent where his mother had lived before she died, and Rebekah became his wife. He loved her and was comforted over the loss of his mother.

Abraham sent his servant to find a bride for his son Isaac. Rebekah was chosen and willingly left her family to be united with Isaac. This beautiful love story is also a symbol: God the Father sends the Holy Spirit (like the servant) to prepare a bride (the church) for His Son, Jesus.

Rebekah’s choice to follow was based on trust. In prophecy, the church is called to prepare for the coming of Christ by faith, devotion, and readiness—just like Rebekah.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that the story of Isaac and Rebekah points to the plan of salvation. The church is the bride of Christ, and we must be ready, pure, and willing to follow when He calls.

- Conclusion

Rebekah’s journey mirrors our own: responding in faith to God's call and preparing to meet Christ.

- Reflection

How does Rebekah’s story symbolize the church’s relationship with Christ?

- THURSDAY – The Harlot Is Judged

- Lesson

Read the following:

Revelation 17:1-5
KJV 1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth. CEV 1 One of the seven angels who had emptied the bowls came over and said to me, “Come on! I will show you how God will punish that shameless prostitute who sits on many oceans. 2 Every king on earth has slept with her, and her shameless ways are like wine that has made everyone on earth drunk.” 3 With the help of the Spirit, the angel took me into a desert, where I saw a woman sitting on a red beast. The beast was covered with names that were an insult to God, and it had seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet robes, and she wore jewelry made of gold, precious stones, and pearls. In her hand she held a gold cup filled with the filthy and nasty things she had done. 5 On her forehead a mysterious name was written:

Revelation 19:1-9
KJV 1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: 2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. 3 And again they said, Alleluia And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. 5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. 7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. 9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. CEV 1 After this, I heard what sounded like a lot of voices in heaven, and they were shouting, “Praise the Lord! To our God belongs the glorious power to save, 2 because his judgments are honest and fair. That filthy prostitute ruined the earth with shameful deeds. But God has judged her and made her pay the price for murdering his servants.” 3 Then the crowd shouted, “Praise the Lord! Smoke will never stop rising from her burning body.” 4 After this, the 24 elders and the four living creatures all knelt before the throne of God and worshiped him. They said, “Amen! Praise the Lord!” 5 From the throne a voice said, “If you worship and fear our God, give praise to him, no matter who you are.” 6 Then I heard what seemed to be a large crowd that sounded like a roaring flood and loud thunder all mixed together. They were saying, “Praise the Lord! Our Lord God All-Powerful now rules as king. 7 So we will be glad and happy and give him praise. The wedding day of the Lamb is here, and his bride is ready. 8 She will be given a wedding dress made of pure and shining linen. This linen stands for the good things God's people have done.” 9 Then the angel told me, “Put this in writing. God will bless everyone who is invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” The angel also said, “These things God has said are true.”

The Bible not only speaks of the true bride (God’s people) but also of a false one—Babylon, the harlot. This false bride represents a system of rebellion, pride, and false worship. She leads others away from God and is judged in the end.

In contrast, the true bride prepares herself for the wedding of the Lamb. She wears white, representing righteousness. This shows the final separation between those who follow God and those who follow deception.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White writes that Babylon stands for confusion, corruption, and turning away from truth. God’s people must come out of Babylon and be pure, ready for Christ. The final call is about loyalty—who will we follow?

- Conclusion

A choice must be made: will we follow the true bridegroom or the false systems of the world?

What do the pure woman and the harlot in Revelation represent?

- FRIDAY – Further Thought

- Lesson

The marriage image in prophecy reminds us of God’s plan to unite with His people forever. Like a bride who prepares for her wedding, the church must be faithful, pure, and ready. All through Scripture, God calls us to loyalty, love, and commitment.

From Hosea’s pain to Rebekah’s choice, we see how much God wants us to be close to Him. The story ends in joy, not sadness—for those who accept His invitation.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White says that now is the time to get ready. We must have Christ’s robe of righteousness and be ready for the wedding feast. Those who reject truth will miss out. The invitation is open—will we accept?

And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords. 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. God will bless everyone who is invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” The angel also said, “These things God has said are true.” 10 I knelt at the feet of the angel and began to worship him. But the angel said, “Don't do that! I am a servant, just like you and everyone else who tells about Jesus. Don't worship anyone but God. Everyone who tells about Jesus does it by the power of the Spirit.” 11 I looked and saw heaven was open, and a white horse was there. Its rider was called Faithful and True, and he is always fair when he judges or goes to war. 12 He had eyes like flames of fire, and he was wearing a lot of crowns. His name was written on him, but he was the only one who knew what the name meant. 13 The rider wore a robe that was covered with blood, and he was known as “The Word of God.” 14 He was followed by armies from heaven that rode on white horses and were dressed in pure white linen. 15 From his mouth a sharp sword went out to attack the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod and will show the fierce anger of God All-Powerful by trampling the grapes in the pit where wine is made. 16 On the part of the robe that covered his thigh was written, “KING OF KINGS AND Lord OF LordS.” 17 I then saw an angel standing on the sun, and he shouted to all the birds flying in the sky, “Come and join in God's great feast! 18 You can eat the flesh of kings, rulers, leaders, horses, riders, free people, slaves, important people, and everyone else.” 19 I also saw the beast and all kings of the earth come together. They fought against the rider on the white horse and against his army. 20 But the beast was captured and so was the false prophet. This is the same prophet who had worked miracles for the beast, so he could fool everyone who had the mark of the beast and worshiped the idol. The beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into a lake of burning sulfur. 21 But the rest of their army was killed by the sword that came from the mouth of the rider on the horse. Then birds stuffed themselves on the dead bodies.

Images From Marriage

This week, we studied how the Bible uses marriage to teach us about God’s love, faithfulness, and plan for salvation. From Eden to Revelation, the picture of a loving Bridegroom and a chosen bride shows us the kind of relationship God wants with His people. Even when we are unfaithful, He stays committed. His invitation is still open—and one day soon, the wedding celebration will begin.
