Spiritual Gifts

- OVERVIEW

God has given every believer spiritual gifts to strengthen His church and help share the gospel. No one receives every gift, and no gift is more important than another. Like the different parts of a body, each believer has a unique role. When our gifts are used with humility and love, they build unity, strengthen the church, and bring glory to God.

- SATURDAY – Introduction

- Memory Text

1 Corinthians 14:1
KJV 1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. CEV 1 Love should be your guide. Be eager to have the gifts that come from the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy.

- Lesson

Just as the human body has many parts with different functions, God's church is made up of many believers with different spiritual gifts. Every gift has been given for a purpose, and each one helps strengthen the body of Christ.

God never intended everyone to do exactly the same work. Instead, He equips His people in different ways so they can serve together in unity.

Spiritual gifts should never become a reason for pride or competition. They are gifts of God's grace, given to bless others and build up His church – Ephesians 4:11-13
KJV 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: CEV 11 Christ chose some of us to be apostles, prophets, missionaries, pastors, and teachers, 12 so his people would learn to serve and his body would grow strong. 13 This will continue until we are united by our faith and by our understanding of the Son of God. Then we will be mature, just as Christ is, and we will be completely like him.
..When every believer faithfully uses the abilities God has given, the church grows stronger and reflects the character of Christ.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that God intentionally gives different gifts to different people. Just as every part of the body has a purpose, every believer has a valuable place in God's work.

When we appreciate one another's gifts instead of comparing ourselves with others, the church becomes stronger and more united.

- Conclusion

God has given every believer something valuable to contribute to His work.

- SUNDAY – Varieties of Gifts

- Lesson

The Holy Spirit gives different spiritual gifts to believers, but every gift comes from the same God – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6
KJV 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. CEV 4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit. 5 There are different ways to serve the same Lord, 6 and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of us and helps us in everything we do.
..Although our abilities differ, they all have the same purpose of serving Christ and building up His church.

Paul reminds believers that the first evidence of the Spirit's work is recognising Jesus as Lord – 1 Corinthians 12:3
KJV 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. CEV 3 Now I want you to know that if you are led by God's Spirit, you will say that Jesus is Lord, and you will never curse Jesus.
..Every other spiritual gift grows out of this relationship with Christ.

God distributes gifts according to His wisdom. No one receives every gift, but every gift is needed.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
KJV 1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. CEV 1 My friends, you asked me about spiritual gifts. 2 I want you to remember that before you became followers of the Lord, you were led in all the wrong ways by idols that cannot even talk. 3 Now I want you to know that if you are led by God's Spirit, you will say that Jesus is Lord, and you will never curse Jesus. 4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit. 5 There are different ways to serve the same Lord, 6 and we can each do different things. Yet the same God works in all of us and helps us in everything we do. 7 The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. 8 Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit. 9 To others the Spirit has given great faith or the power to heal the sick 10 or the power to work mighty miracles. Some of us are prophets, and some of us recognize when God's Spirit is present. Others can speak different kinds of languages, and still others can tell what these languages mean. 11 But it is the Spirit who does all this and decides which gifts to give to each of us.

1. The Holy Spirit Points to Jesus – 1 Corinthians 12:1-3

The Spirit leads people to confess Jesus as Lord and gives true spiritual understanding.

2. Different Gifts, Same Source – 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

There are many kinds of gifts, ministries, and activities, but they all come from the same God.

3. Gifts Are Given for Everyone's Benefit – 1 Corinthians 12:7
KJV 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. CEV 7 The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others.

Every believer receives a spiritual gift to help strengthen the church.

4. The Spirit Distributes the Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:8-11
KJV 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. CEV 8 Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit.

The Holy Spirit gives different gifts to different believers according to His wisdom.

God does not expect every Christian to have the same abilities. Instead, He calls each believer to faithfully use the gifts they have received for the blessing of others.

The Holy Spirit gives gifts for service rather than personal recognition – 1 Corinthians 12:11
KJV 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. CEV 11 But it is the Spirit who does all this and decides which gifts to give to each of us.
..Every gift becomes valuable when it is used with humility and love.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that God gives different gifts because His work requires many different abilities.

No gift should be considered unimportant. Every believer has something to contribute, and God blesses those who faithfully use the abilities He has entrusted to them.

- Conclusion

Rather than wishing for someone else's gift, we should faithfully use the gifts God has given us.

- Reflection

Why does God give different gifts instead of the same gift to everyone?

Reveal Suggested Answer

How can you use your gifts to bless others?

Reveal Suggested Answer

- MONDAY – Unity Through Diversity

- Lesson

God designed His church like a human body. Although each part is different, every part is needed. No believer is unimportant, and no spiritual gift is unnecessary.

Paul explains that the church is one body with many members – 1 Corinthians 12:12-13
KJV 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. CEV 12 The body of Christ has many different parts, just as any other body does. 13 Some of us are Jews, and others are Gentiles. Some of us are slaves, and others are free. But God's Spirit baptized each of us and made us part of the body of Christ. Now we each drink from that same Spirit.
..Our differences are not meant to divide us but to help us work together more effectively.

The body illustration teaches us that every believer depends on the others.

Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
KJV 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. 25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 14 Our bodies don't have just one part. They have many parts. 15 Suppose a foot says, “I'm not a hand, and so I'm not part of the body.” Wouldn't the foot still belong to the body? 16 Or suppose an ear says, “I'm not an eye, and so I'm not part of the body.” Wouldn't the ear still belong to the body? 17 If our bodies were only an eye, we couldn't hear a thing. And if they were only an ear, we couldn't smell a thing. 18 But God has put all parts of our body together in the way that he decided is best. 19 A body isn't really a body, unless there is more than one part. 20 It takes many parts to make a single body. 21 That's why the eyes cannot say they don't need the hands. That's also why the head cannot say it doesn't need the feet. 22 In fact, we cannot get along without the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest. 23 We take special care to dress up some parts of our bodies. We are modest about our personal parts, 24 but we don't have to be modest about other parts. God put our bodies together in such a way that even the parts that seem the least important are valuable. 25 He did this to make all parts of the body work together smoothly, with each part caring about the others. 26 If one part of our body hurts, we hurt all over. If one part of our body is honored, the whole body will be happy. 27 Together you are the body of Christ. Each one of you is part of his body. 28 First, God chose some people to be apostles and prophets and teachers for the church. But he also chose some to work miracles or heal the sick or help others or be leaders or speak different kinds of languages. 29 Not everyone is an apostle. Not everyone is a prophet. Not everyone is a teacher. Not everyone can work miracles. 30 Not everyone can heal the sick. Not everyone can speak different kinds of languages. Not everyone can tell what these languages mean. 31 I want you to desire the best gifts. So I will show you a much better way.

1. One Body, Many Members – 1 Corinthians 12:12-14
14 Our bodies don't have just one part. They have many parts.

Although believers have different gifts, they all belong to the same body of Christ.

2. Every Member Has Value – 1 Corinthians 12:15-20
KJV 15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body. CEV 15 Suppose a foot says, “I'm not a hand, and so I'm not part of the body.” Wouldn't the foot still belong to the body? 16 Or suppose an ear says, “I'm not an eye, and so I'm not part of the body.” Wouldn't the ear still belong to the body? 17 If our bodies were only an eye, we couldn't hear a thing. And if they were only an ear, we couldn't smell a thing. 18 But God has put all parts of our body together in the way that he decided is best. 19 A body isn't really a body, unless there is more than one part. 20 It takes many parts to make a single body.

No part of the body can say it is unnecessary because every member has been placed there by God.

3. Members Depend on One Another – 1 Corinthians 12:21-26
KJV 21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. CEV 21 That's why the eyes cannot say they don't need the hands.

The different parts of the body work together, care for one another, and share both joy and suffering.

4. God Gives Different Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:27-31
KJV 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. CEV 27 Together you are the body of Christ.

God appoints different ministries and gifts so the whole church may grow and be strengthened.

Just as every part of the human body is important, every believer has a place in God's church. We serve best when we appreciate one another instead of comparing ourselves.

God joins believers together into one body – Ephesians 4:11-13
Then we will be mature, just as Christ is, and we will be completely like him.
..Unity grows as every member faithfully serves using the gifts God has provided.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that Christ's followers are united because they all belong to Him. Although believers have different abilities and personalities, the Holy Spirit brings harmony as each person serves faithfully.

When we value one another's gifts instead of competing, the church reflects God's love and unity before the world.

- Conclusion

God never intended Christians to work alone. He calls us to serve together as one united body.

- TUESDAY – A More Excellent Way

- Lesson

Spiritual gifts are wonderful blessings, but they accomplish God's purpose only when they are used with love. Without love, even the greatest gifts lose their value.

Paul places his well-known chapter on love between his discussion of spiritual gifts to show that love must guide every ministry within the church.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
KJV 1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. CEV 1 What if I could speak all languages of humans and even of angels? If I did not love others, I would be nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 What if I could prophesy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge? And what if I had faith that moved mountains? I would be nothing, unless I loved others. 3 What if I gave away all that I owned and let myself be burned alive? I would gain nothing, unless I loved others. 4 Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or 5 rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. 6 Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7 Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.

1. Gifts Without Love Are Empty – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Even remarkable abilities and great sacrifices have little value if they are not motivated by love.

2. What Love Does – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7a
KJV 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. CEV 4 Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or 5 rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. 6 Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. 7 Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.

Love is patient, kind, humble, truthful, forgiving, and seeks the good of others.

3. Love Never Gives Up – 1 Corinthians 13:7
KJV 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. CEV 7 Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.

Love continues to trust, hope, endure, and remain faithful.

Paul reminds us that spiritual gifts should never draw attention to ourselves. Their purpose is to reveal Christ's love through our service.

Peter gives the same instruction to believers.

Read 1 Peter 4:8-11
KJV 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. CEV 8 Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins. 9 Welcome people into your home and don't grumble about it. 10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well. 11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

1. Love Covers Many Sins – 1 Peter 4:8
KJV 8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. CEV 8 Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins.

Believers are called to love one another deeply.

2. Serve Others Willingly – 1 Peter 4:9-10
KJV 9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging. 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. CEV 9 Welcome people into your home and don't grumble about it. 10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

God's gifts are to be used generously to bless others.

3. Give God the Glory – 1 Peter 4:11
KJV 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. CEV 11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

Whether speaking or serving, everything should honour God through Jesus Christ.

Love gives every spiritual gift its true purpose. When love guides our service, people see the character of Jesus rather than our own abilities.

Love is the greatest Christian quality – 1 Corinthians 13:13
KJV 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. CEV 13 For now there are faith, hope, and love. But of these three, the greatest is love.
..Every gift becomes more effective when it is exercised with humility and compassion.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that God's grace changes our thoughts, actions, and character. As Christ's love fills our hearts, selfishness disappears and kindness becomes natural.

Love is the atmosphere in which every spiritual gift should operate.

- Conclusion

The greatest gift we can share with others is the love of Christ.

- WEDNESDAY – The Gift of Tongues

- Lesson

The church in Corinth placed too much importance on speaking in tongues, creating confusion during worship. Paul reminded them that every spiritual gift should strengthen the church rather than draw attention to the individual.

The gift of tongues described in the New Testament enabled believers to speak languages they had not previously learned – Acts 2:4-11
KJV 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. CEV 4 The Holy Spirit took control of everyone, and they began speaking whatever languages the Spirit let them speak. 5 Many religious Jews from every country in the world were living in Jerusalem. 6 And when they heard this noise, a crowd gathered. But they were surprised, because they were hearing everything in their own languages. 7 They were excited and amazed, and said: Don't all these who are speaking come from Galilee? 8 Then why do we hear them speaking our very own languages? 9 Some of us are from Parthia, Media, and Elam. Others are from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, parts of Libya near Cyrene, Rome, 11 Crete, and Arabia. Some of us were born Jews, and others of us have chosen to be Jews. Yet we all hear them using our own languages to tell the wonderful things God has done.
..God gave this gift so the gospel could be understood by people from many different nations.

Paul explains how this gift should be used in public worship.

Read 1 Corinthians 14:5, 13, 26-28
KJV 26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. CEV 26 My friends, when you meet to worship, you must do everything for the good of everyone there. That's how it should be when someone sings or teaches or tells what God has said or speaks an unknown language or explains what the language means. 27 No more than two or three of you should speak unknown languages during the meeting. You must take turns, and someone should always be there to explain what you mean. 28 If no one can explain, you must keep silent in church and speak only to yourself and to God.

1. Prophecy Benefits the Church More – 1 Corinthians 14:5
KJV 5 I would that ye all spake with tongues but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. CEV 5 I am glad for you to speak unknown languages, although I prefer that you would prophesy. In fact, prophesying does much more good than speaking unknown languages, unless someone can help the church by explaining what you mean.

Paul explains that understandable messages strengthen the church more than uninterpreted tongues.

2. Pray for Understanding – 1 Corinthians 14:13
KJV 13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. CEV 13 When we speak languages that others don't know, we should pray for the power to explain what we mean.

Anyone speaking in another language should also pray that the message can be understood.

3. Everything Should Build Up the Church – 1 Corinthians 14:26
KJV 26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. CEV 26 My friends, when you meet to worship, you must do everything for the good of everyone there. That's how it should be when someone sings or teaches or tells what God has said or speaks an unknown language or explains what the language means.

Every contribution to worship should encourage and strengthen God's people.

4. Worship Should Be Orderly – 1 Corinthians 14:27-28
KJV 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. CEV 27 No more than two or three of you should speak unknown languages during the meeting. You must take turns, and someone should always be there to explain what you mean. 28 If no one can explain, you must keep silent in church and speak only to yourself and to God.

If no one can interpret, the speaker should remain silent rather than create confusion.

God never gives spiritual gifts to produce disorder or confusion. His gifts are always intended to strengthen His people and help others understand the gospel.

Whatever gift we receive should make Christ's message clearer rather than more confusing – 1 Corinthians 14:40
KJV 40 Let all things be done decently and in order. CEV 40 But do everything properly and in order.
..God is a God of peace and order.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that on the Day of Pentecost the disciples miraculously spoke real languages so people from many nations could understand the gospel.

God's gifts should always help others understand His truth rather than create excitement or confusion.

- Conclusion

The purpose of every spiritual gift is to strengthen God's church and bring people closer to Jesus.

- THURSDAY – Using God's Gifts

- Lesson

God has entrusted every believer with spiritual gifts, abilities, and opportunities to serve. These gifts are not given simply for personal enjoyment but to strengthen the church and help others grow closer to Christ.

No matter how ordinary our abilities may seem, God can use them in wonderful ways when they are surrendered to Him. Faithfulness is more important than having impressive gifts.

Peter reminds believers that every gift is a trust from God.

Read 1 Peter 4:10-11
KJV 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. CEV 10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well. 11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

1. Every Believer Has Received a Gift – 1 Peter 4:10a
KJV 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. CEV 10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

God has given each Christian abilities to be used in His service.

2. Serve One Another – 1 Peter 4:10b
KJV 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. CEV 10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

Our gifts are to bless others as faithful stewards of God's grace.

3. Speak God's Words Faithfully – 1 Peter 4:11a
KJV 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. CEV 11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

Those who teach or speak should do so according to God's Word.

4. Serve in God's Strength – 1 Peter 4:11b
Amen.

Those who serve should depend upon God's strength so that He receives the glory.

God has not asked us to compare our gifts with those of others. He simply asks us to faithfully use what He has placed in our hands.

Every act of service can honour Christ – Colossians 3:23-24
KJV 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. CEV 23 Do your work willingly, as though you were serving the Lord himself, and not just your earthly master. 24 In fact, the Lord Christ is the one you are really serving, and you know he will reward you.
..When we serve wholeheartedly for the Lord, our work becomes an act of worship.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that God entrusts different responsibilities to different people according to their abilities.

The Lord does not measure success by the size of the task but by the faithfulness with which it is carried out. Even the smallest act of service becomes valuable when it is done for Christ.

- Conclusion

God measures faithfulness more than greatness. Every believer can make a difference by using their gifts for His glory.

- FRIDAY – Further Thought

- Lesson

God never intended spiritual gifts to divide His church. Instead, He gave different gifts so believers could serve together in harmony and help one another grow spiritually.

As we learn to appreciate the abilities God has given others, we become more united and more effective in sharing the gospel. The church is strongest when every member lovingly uses the gifts God has entrusted to them.

The Holy Spirit continues equipping God's people today – Romans 12:4-8
KJV 4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. CEV 500 Internal Server Error nginx
..Every believer has a valuable part to play in God's work.

- EGW Notes (Paraphrased)

Ellen White explains that God could have chosen angels to complete His work, yet He invites His people to work together with Him.

Every believer is called to participate in God's mission. As each person faithfully fulfils their role, the church grows in unity, strength, and love.

- Conclusion

God has given every believer a place in His work. As we faithfully use our gifts in love, His church is strengthened and His name is honoured.

- LESSON SUMMARY

Spiritual Gifts

This week we learned that God gives every believer spiritual gifts to strengthen His church and share the gospel. Although our gifts are different, they all come from the same Holy Spirit and are to be used in love, humility, and unity. Like the many parts of one body, every believer has an important place in God's work. As we faithfully use the gifts He has entrusted to us, Christ is honoured, His church is strengthened, and others are drawn closer to Him.
